Lorsque Sanyu (1895-1966) s’établit à Paris en 1923, la vie artistique bat son plein dans le quartier de Montparnasse. L’académie de la Grande Chaumière, où il découvre le dessin de nus d’après modèles, lui offre une grande liberté. C’est un véritable bouleversement pour ce jeune artiste étranger. Il dessine avec vivacité à l’encre de Chine les corps aux formes généreuses prenant la pose, mais aussi ses camarades d’atelier.
La sélection d’œuvres, présentée ici par Sylvie Buisson et Philippe Cinquini, nous dit déjà toute la modernité du célèbre peintre chinois.
Sanyu, and his models
When Sanyu (1895-1966) arrived in Paris in 1923, the artistic life of Montparnasse was in full swing.
He found great freedom in the Academy of the Grande Chaumière, where he discovered the drawing of nudes from models. This was an awakening into a new freedom for the young foreign artist, who made lively India ink drawings of the generously-shaped bodies who posed for him, as well as of his studio peers.
The selected works presented here by Sylvie Buisson and Philippe Cinquini, demonstrate just how modern this famous Chinese painter was.
